SIGNAL (SGNL) is the visual work of Mauricio Cremer. The Costa Rican born designer is currently Associate Creative Director at Ackerman McQueen in Oklahoma City.
Prior to starting SGNL I was Brand Director/boot designer for HELM, a hand made boot brand based in Austin, Texas. The concept was beautiful hand-made boots that had as much comfort as they did style. The identity needed to create the sense of quality and craftsmanship that only comes from a hand-made shoe. In addition, I designed multiple marketing materials and collateral.
From there, we began to discuss the actual boot design. Some early ideas from founder Joshua Bingaman, were amalgamations of multiple shoes and boots that we were both drawn to. It was my job to take those “blue sky” concepts and hone them down into what would be the first seven styles in the current HELM line. Shown here are the original sketches that would become the foundation for the line.
